Imageline is located in beautiful Ashland, Virginia, just north of Richmond, and only about an hour's drive down I-95 South from Washington D.C. Our proximity to one of the finest art schools in the country (VCU, or Virginia Commonwealth University) and the federal agencies and associations in Washington, have influenced our digital graphic arts content products and philosophies for the past twenty-nine years.

Ashland is just like every other small college town in America (60 years go, anyway!), as it has a train track running straight through the center of town and more creativity per square block than you can find almost anywhere else on the planet

Central Virginia is home to some of the most creative and innovative people in this country and has been this way for over 400 years, for those of you who missed our celebration in Jamestown and Williamsburg in 2007

Ashland is in the center of Hanover County, a county with more history than anyone could imagine. Ashland also calls itself the “Center of the Universe”. Patrick Henry lived here. So did Henry Clay. Thomas Jefferson and George Washington often came through here on horseback. The Town Hall looks exactly the same as it did 100 years ago.

The American Revolution began and ended nearby, as did the Civil War

And what better place to grab a cold beer than the original Hanover Tavern, where these historical American heroes relaxed after a long day’s ride and laid the course for freedom and democracy that still outpaces the rest of the world today.

While someone (we won't name names here) once said this place has 400 years of history "unmarred by progress", we do not agree. Well, not exactly, anyway. Today, technology embraces history and they live together comfortably, and side-by-side, in one of the most historical and beautiful places on earth.

So, after the founder of Imageline developed an internationally successful computer graphics marketing and training system for IBM in 1979 (called AIM, for Automated Instructional Marketing), it was natural that he would return to a place he called home. No, not Silicon Valley or Boston ... Central Virginia. From that point in 1980, the history of what is now the world's leading developer and publisher of original digital vector graphic arts content began.

There’s nothing quite as fulfilling as working in a fast paced industry as we do from the heart of slower paced lifestyle. So what if we have a short stroll to the mail box. We need the exercise these days!

And Central Virginia is home to some of the finest historical buildings, like the now renovated Main Street Station as it was a 100 years ago (see below), old Victorian homes, plantations, and estates in the world, all nestled along the James River, and only a little more that an hour’s drive from either the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, Washington D.C., or the revitalized ocean views of Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

What better scenery to set the majestic stage for the creative design and production of some of the most innovative and artistic uses of modern day technology applied to the fields of graphic arts and photography. You won’t find this kind of creative setting in Silicon Valley or in Boston.

Imageline helped IBM and Charlie Chaplain create and deliver the animated graphics for the new IBM PC in the early 1980's and has continued to produce innovative, award-winning, products and services ever since. Click here to see our History.

Stop in and see us when you're in town.

Take the train and we'll pick you up by horseback ... with high speed color Blackberries, Netbooks, and i-Phones in hand.

You'll leave with a better image of this place and an enhanced image for your mobile phones, websites, printed materials, and products. And a fresh brewed cup of coffee from one of the most relaxing little coffee houses this side of Seattle. [picture #13]

Wow … that’s some nice looking “clipart” on that sign!
